How to Clean Dust From Your PC Safely
Dust buildup can choke airflow, make fans louder, and raise temperatures. A basic cleaning can help a system run cooler and sometimes even quieter.
Subtronics LLC can handle upgrades, troubleshooting, setup, and repair for customers in Flushing, Flint, and nearby Genesee County areas.

This video covers safe cleaning basics and helps people avoid common mistakes.
Basic steps
- Turn the PC off, unplug it, and move it somewhere with good ventilation.
- Hold fan blades in place while using compressed air so they do not overspin.
- Work from top to bottom: filters, fans, heatsinks, GPU shroud, and case floor.
- Use short bursts of air and keep the can upright if you are using canned air.
- Wipe exterior panels and dust filters with a microfiber cloth.
- Reconnect everything and confirm all fans spin normally after power-on.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not use a household vacuum directly on sensitive components unless you know exactly what you are doing.
- Do not spray liquid cleaners inside the case.
- If temperatures stay high after cleaning, the issue may be failing fans or dried thermal paste.
When DIY stops being worth it
There is nothing wrong with doing the safe part yourself and then handing the rest off once the job becomes stressful, time-consuming, or risky. That is especially true when the computer has important files, expensive parts, or symptoms that do not match a simple upgrade.
Subtronics LLC offers local diagnostics, upgrades, custom PC help, and remote support. If you want ongoing help after the repair, ask about Subtronics TechCare.
